Good-bye AvantGo

One of my favorite features on my handheld computer is, or rather was, avantgo. It is a program that downloads customized news and information onto my handheld computer from the Internet. I've enjoyed having trivia, my local weather forecasts, and the current news right on my handheld computer. I even recently signed up to get short stories downloaded into the thing too.

Anyway, I haven't been able to sync avantgo since last Friday ["Unknown Error during processing - AvantGo Connect synchronization failed -"AvantGo Connect" failed (error = #4096)]. I've tried everything from tweaking the settings (recommended in avantgo's help files for error #4096) to resorting to a clean install of the avantgo software with no luck.

It's to the point that it just isn't worth it. It hogs my handheld's memory, which I didn't mind when I had fresh reading material daily, but for 3 days in a row now I haven't been able to connect.

I've given up on the problem, but I'll give it till tomorrow to "self-correct" then I'm deleting the whole thing.

I downloaded that once, thinking you didn't need a modem in your handheld for it to work. If you need one they should bloody well tell you that before you go through all the crap to sign up for the piece of junk.

*sigh*

Um, while there are a few channels that require a wireless modem, for most channels to be updated you simply need your "big" computer to be connected to the internet at the same time you sync your handheld. (at least for a Mac/Palm set up, I can't really comment about other types but I'd imagine they're the same).

(btw, I had a last minute flash of inspiration as to how to fix the problems I was having. Short version of the story -- a software conflict with another web browsing program I had just installed).
