Nite Mirror
Well, I just convinced myself that Compaq was wrong about my needing a new HD. I booted up my old Mac (as I said in my last entry), and googled my error message after my post from my Mac.

Based on my google search, I tweaked this computer's bios a little. Apparently the error message I get is from the computer trying to boot from the wrong device. So I move the HD up to be the first thing it looks to boot from and completely disabled it looking for a network to boot from.

Well, for now anyway, that seems to have worked.

Bad solution...

Not good to have it look for the HD to boot from first ... at least put the CD rom in the first spot then the HD. If the HD gets corrupted somehow, you won't be able to boot at all even from another device.

Re: Bad solution...

Well, it's set back to the defult settings after this mornings fight to get it booted. I was a bit surprised it still has an option to boot from a floppy drive (by defult the first on the list for some reason). I thought floppy drives went out years ago.

Re: Bad solution...

And this machine does not have a floppy drive attached to it. Not quite years ago that they went out, but they are an optional add-on now. (I still find them to be great at small file transfer from machine to machine when burning a CD just isn't justified and I'm not connected to a network.)

The BIOS hasn't been changed much, so floppy is still an option there... understandable.

Just let Compaq fix the darn thing.
