It's no secret that I listen to a lot of WGN radio. It is also public knowledge that WGN radio is owned by the Chicago Tribune (aka World's Greatest Newspaper as WGN originally stood for). So the newspaper, radio, and TV people all work in the same building and to some extent all know each other.|
I woke up to the news that a popular journalist for the Chicago Tribune newspaper, Allen Johnson, passed away last night at the age of 46 leaving among other survivors an 18 month old child.
The man who has the Saturday morning radio show, Steve Cochran, didn't play his usual opening music saying it was too upbeat to follow such said news, and started his radio program sans any kind of opening other than that announcement.
I have made the comment several times before that as long as Mr, Cochran is serious I like him. He likes to think of himself as a standup comedian who happens to have a radio show 6 days a week (and he does occasionally promote his standup shows over the radio)
I don't care for his type of comedy, and am not interested in attending any of his standup comedy acts. I do think he is an extremely intelligent, caring person, and I thoroughly enjoy the parts of his radio shows where he isn't trying to be funny; The parts where his intelligence and compassion show through.
