I should be outside shoveling snow. Instead I'll write this quick first. I got my DSL modem today, and just spent the last hour or so looking everything over, reading the directions, and mentally putting everything together in my head.

The power supply and modem themselves are still a bit cold from being outside, and I remember someone telling me it's always best to leave electronics warm to room temperature before using cold electronic equipment. That's why I've only done the setup in my head rather than actually connecting everything up. Ah, although I won't be able to use this until Thr. when the phone company flips the switch on their end (or whatever it is they do).

One thing I'm confused about is the modem has a sticker that says "to maximize connection speed, leave this modem on for 10 days after DSL installation is complete."

Um, why? I'll do it, but what's the science behind that? The rational part of me likes to know the why's and how's of things, and this one I'm drawing a complete blank on.

Ah, I don't want to go, but I do need to go push some snow around -- first here, then over at Mom's house.

(55 days till the Cubs first game, btw)
