In my childhood I would wake up to Wally Phillips on WGN like the vast majority of people in the Chicago area during the 1970s and 1980s. Wally made his mark to the point that people have called WGN "the house that Wally built."
Wally created probably his greatest legacy, "Neediest Kids' Fund" which still helps children in need around the Chicago area.
Things hit even closer home to me with this Chicago great when it was announced he had Alzheimer's disease. He stayed out of the public eye these last several years. However, being all too familiar with the disease, in my mind I pretty much know the course his life took.
I would like to prattle on about this Chicago great, but I'm short on time and need to keep moving.
