Nite Mirror
So, last night the heavens opened up and I caught a glimpse of a small part of nature's power. In other words, one of the worst thunderstorms I've seen in years went over my head. From the radio I heard lots of funnel clouds were spotted around the area, a couple of tornadoes touched down, and the mayor of a community near me has declared his town a disaster area.

As for right here, ... well, Mom and I were two of the 200,000 + customers the power company said were without power. From about midnight last night to around 10 this morning, there was no power at my house and I'm thinking that was true for most of my little city.

A bit farther away, I was listening to last night's Cub's game. Just before the umpires started the 2nd rain delay, you could hear the fear in Pat and Ron's (the radio broadcasters) voices. Their booth was flooding, and between all the electronics involved in radio broadcasts all around them and the lightening, you knew they didn't feel safe. Then in the last few broadcasts to update the rain delay status from the ballpark, you heard the weather siren on Wrigley Field's roof going off (I'm pretty sure that was the first time that siren went off during a game). I guess they actually evacuated the people watching the game into the park's concourse and locked them in there for their own safety during the height of last night's storm -- another first to the best of my knowledge also.

That was no little summer storm last night in other words.
