It's been a rainy, blah week so far; and right now my mood kinda matches it.|
Ah, just gotta keep on keeping on, I guess. Although, the way I'm feeling that isn't an easy trick.
Say does anyone use ghostery with the chrome browser? With my Firefox browser it works great, but on chrome, well, the chrome version of ghostery doesn't seem to work with the lernu.net website. I'll set it to block cookies, but after visiting lernu.com ... well, it doesn't seem to block anything on that site. Very strange.
I also heard that ABC is canceling All My Children and One Life to Live. AMC I don't care about, but I used to watch OLTL, and still occasionally tune in. Sad to hear it will come to an end next January.
Speaking of sad news, I learned of two deaths yesterday that affected me. First I heard about the actress Elisabeth Sladen passed away. For those of you who remember Dr. Who from back in the 1970's and '80, she was Sarah Jane Smith on that show. From what I read, she was only 63 when she passed away yesterday too. Far too young.
After hearing about her, I logged on to face book to find one of my old fraternity brothers had changed his profile picture to a woman's picture. Reading his entries there, I learned his mother passed away yesterday too. I wish there was something I could do for him.
Moving on to more pleasant things, I finally rsvp'ed to my Godson's wedding invite. It's in the mail only 4 days after they wanted it sent.
As for the other relative who's getting married a few weeks later, well, I haven't even got the invite for that yet (although through the family grapevine, I hear they are having problems dealing with the printer for those invites).
and just one minor brag that prob. isn't worth bragging about. Because my opponent didn't make his move in time, I won my first chess game over on Chess.com. My rating jumped up to 1330. I was kinda tickled about that. Years and years ago, when I was active with an email chess group ... well, we'll leave it at the fact I was never above a 1200 rating with that group.
Growing up I was told by more than one person that I "should be good at chess." I wasn't. Looking back, I think it was a combination of that over-expectation and my unwillingness to try and learn chess theory for the reason why I wasn't as good as everyone put it in my head I should have been.
Now, well, studying chess isn't top on my to do list, but it's there now, and I've even decided that of the chess masters Tigran Petrosian's style seems the most like what I'd like to strive for achieving.
Finally, while this is prob. more a topic for my unused poker journal, I'm writing here now so ... I'll write this here now. I don't think anyone who knows me would be surprised I've been following the news coverage of Black Friday as the poker community has started calling last Friday.
Everything I've been reading has pretty much confirmed my initial impression. For the short term, internet poker in the US is now dead (well, not counting the 3rd tier sites that are a bit too iffy for me to use, and not big enough for the government to go after right now).
Anyway, I'd almost be willing to put money down that within 5 years there will be government-regulated internet poker of some sort here in the US, which is want the majority of internet poker players wanted in the first place.
