Ok, take two on this entry. My first attempt was lost in a computer crash.

The plumber validated my repair job. The only thing I did "wrong" on my repair attempts was not put two wax rings in at the same time. So I was on the right track using that extra large ring last time, but even that wasn't enough. So about $2.00 in parts and no comment on labor for the plumber today.

Someone once called a plumber to fix his water heater. The plumber came, listened to the water heater gurgling, tapped the pipe once with a hammer and went on his way. The home owner was pleased until he got a bill for $50. He wrote back protesting the expense because, after all, he'd only had to tap a pipe. The plumber sent back an itemized statement...pipe tapping, $0.50, Knowing where to tap, $49.50. The moral is, you pay for knowledge.

You did a good thing and you learned a great deal. That plumber was an investment and a good one at that, and so was your time and effort. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Um, actually no. :-)

And to top it off he left the sewer pipe open while he went to get the supplies he needed. Even with my bad nose I could smell it from the next room. Although, it cleared out quick enough after the source was plugged again.
